i want to be a writer

“You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.”

Ray Bradbury, Zen in the Art of Writing

i want to be a writer

but my words won’t bring home bread

i want to be a writer

but the nine to five absurdity

poisons my time

i want to be a writer

but the demanding landlords and organic food

leave my pages blank

i want to be a writer

but the dull hours of the redundant days

imprison me in ache

i want to be a writer

but my brain

is stored in a jar of hollow keyboards

i want to be a writer

but my ears

are above my mouth

i want to be a writer

but

who will listen?

How do you keep up the motivation to write in this chaotic world?

  1. This chaotic, absurd world is what motivates me to write, Em. All you have to do to be a writer is write. You write; you are a writer. You write thoughtful, heartfelt, moving posts and poems. Just because you aren’t earning a living from it yet doesn’t mean you aren’t a writer. Don’t give up. And oh, hey; I for one am glad your ears are above your mouth ’cause, you know, you’d look awful funny otherwise!

    1. true, you are always the voice of reason! sometimes i get frustrated with my day job and wish i was sitting somewhere and writing or reading. but i need to have an income to fuel these typing finger!
