I want to go

“Every man has his secret sorrows which the world knows not; and often times we call a man cold when he is only sad.”

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I want to leave my sanity

and keep going

to a place

with no more pain

No blanket of sadness

pressing on my ribs

draping over every moment

painting the world heavy

Somewhere I can

lay my head

and let it be empty

of words

of thoughts

of feelings

Somewhere I can hang my heart

and sun-dry the tears

No old wound

torn into a throbbing hole

giving birth to the recycled soul of a memory

Somewhere the walls won’t inch in

on my shivering spine

and the speckles of the past

won’t punch my lung

The air sits thick

on my life

and eggshells perch sharp

on the pit of my stomach

Oh, eggshells

will you ever allow me

to tread freely

I am trapped

ever imprisoned

to watch where I step

I can’t be me

where everything is too fragile

it will break

and bend my back

Eggshells

spilled everywhere

Surrounding my sanity

grappling with my ambitions

My words are swallowed

my senses are swept under the rug

My feet are bruised

from walking on eggshells

  1. Excellent poem – honest and true – and the video works very well. Just thought that it could be the world we’ve created that’s too fragile and not so much us at all. Oh well, will follow, thanks for following mine. Fancy adding anything to my shared poem?

    1. Thank you. I do agree, the world that we have created is indeed fragile. I did enjoy your poem, nothing to add but a thanks for sharing it.

  2. Beautiful poetry and the location for you video was peaceful and stunning. Be careful of turning too quickly or too often while filming as this can make a person dizzy. Also possibly start with a dark background so the words of the quote are visible and then fade your video in. Well done. I like your voice and tone for the poem.

    1. Thank you for the tips and helping me learn along the way, really appreciated. I will make a note and try to implement them next time.

  3. When your feet get too used to walking on eggshells, they forget how to handle more comfortable surfaces.

Also, great video! The somewhat hazy focus and the mildly chaotic filming technique actually enhanced the meaning of the poem. Were they intentional?

    1. Thank you. The shaky video is a result of my inexperience combined with a little bit of intentional unsteadiness. Either way, I am so glad you liked it.

  4. Sanity really is an invisible prison. Most fail to see it for what it is, believing it instead to be a refuge. We all need to break free, and live in vibrant lands of Mania.
    Brilliant poem, and fantastic video.
