“If you’re lonely when you’re alone, you’re in bad company.”
Jean-Paul Sartre

do i feel lonely?

with my mother oceans away

my father mountains of continents away

and my brother in the middle

what does away mean?

it is the distance you can measure with the length of your palms

the void of which you cannot quantify with any metrics?

any direction

i hold in my heart

what the universe cannot shelter

in the prison of my ribs

there is a vast chasm

in which

precariously dangles

my zealous love

when i cry in my closet

my quivering bones

yearn for a mother’s embrace

i took my scared mind

in my fragile body

to the other side of the world

from all I ever knew

to find myself

i did find her

i won’t ever be lonely

do you ever get lonely?

  4. I can’t remember the last time I was lonely, I think it must’ve been around early- to mid-1992. Since then, my life has been so full and complex that I value very highly what few moments of solitude I’m able to scratch out of my schedule from time to time.

  6. Your Sartre quote was a good beginning. Then it looked like you took a journey and by the end of your poem you found your solution. Very well expressed.

There is a difference between being alone and being lonely.

    1. Em says:

For sure, as an introvert trying to learned that
