nostalgia

“Remembrance of things past is not necessarily the remembrance of things as they were.”
Marcel Proust

nostalgia

is nothing

but

what you wish there was

yet

there was never a reality

as beautiful as your dreams

how do you feel about nostalgia?

  1. I forget where I heard this, but we do tend to remember our pasts as being more pleasant than they actually were. I suppose this is a survival mechanism to keep us from going insane; in one of my first psych classes, I also learned that people who see their lives more realistically tend to be depressed.

    1. ouch…thank you brain and also not :)) getting stuck in the fond memories of the past and yearning for them while they were never actually true…it’s fun being human, ain’t it?

      1. I think it’s both hilarious and terrible that our brains have to lie to us about how shitty our lives are to keep us from being depressed 😛

Nostalgia always has a bright glow around it, I find. The memories that inspire nostalgia for me are rare.

    1. That’s so great, Cie!

  3. There’s definitely a tendency to view the past through rose-tinted glasses, especially when the present situation seems more of a disappointment by comparison with things unfulfilled. 🙃 Still if it lifts the mood to look back fondly on past memories, bring on the nostalgia! 🌸 Love how you expressed it here.

    1. thanks, tom, that’s very true
