“For after all, the best thing one can do when it is raining is let it rain.”
― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
—
the steamy air worms through narrow pine needles
perching one drop at a time on the green life
murky clouds gather in union to clash and clap
they swim in the sky toward mysterious shadows
the cotton clusters block the light and a heavy darkness falls on the earth beneath
a light breeze brushes over the turmoiled soil
the leaves rustle in the thrill of the anticipation
a single drop free falls
slipping away from the damp finger of the smudged sky
it dives with grace
and collapses with a dewy dignity
on the thirsty ground
the smell of fresh love between water and earth
wafts through the dim steam
with hints of wet dirt and squeezed roses
a million drops follow
emitting fragrant steam
that travels to the nose
and into the lungs
with memories of summer
caught in a misty shower

how does the smell of fresh rain make you feel?

Love the vivid imagery throughout! Great job, Em 🙂
Thank you, as always x
During our rainy season (6 months) rain can occur at any time of the day but it will occur every day. When it does, no matter the time of day, it feels like morning. Time to begin the new day.
I miss the fragrance that comes with the “narrow pine needles.” Good evocative writing.
aaahhh, sounds lovely
